Station 8

Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

Jesus calmly meets the women of Jerusalem who have shown deep faith in following Him. The crowd of the women of Jerusalem is diverse with various ages and emotional states. Young women, carrying their infants, stand together with their elders whose wise, wrinkled face are deeply saddened. In the group there are those knelt in prayer, some with their eyes closed and hands clasped, and others are distraught and weeping. There are those with their eyes turned to Jesus and others with their eyes turned to Heaven.

Luke 23:27-31

A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him. Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children, for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’ At that time people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall upon us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ for if these things are done when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry?”

Luke 17:33-37

Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it. I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left.” They said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the body is, there also the [eagles] will gather.”

Matthew 7:17-19

Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

Matthew 9:20-22

A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.” Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, “Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.” And from that hour the woman was cured.
